Sorry Precious Bane was so hard for everyone...I feel bad for recommending it! In all honesty I still love the book, but I can see why it may not be a favorite for everyone else. But I think that is the fun of having a book club, to step outside of your reading comfort zone and explore new ideas.
Now it is time for a new book...
I just finished the Host and thought it was ok. Not my favorite, but it was a page turner. The concept was fascinating, but by the end I felt like the story lagged a little. I think we should let someone besides me pick a book and one we can get at the library would be nice. Hmmmmm... any volunteers or book ideas? Should we just come up with a rotating order so everyone has a turn to pick a book?

Mand I really enjoyed "Precious Bane," and I'm glad you recommended it. It's not the type of book I typically read, so I'm glad I read it to expand my horizons a bit. It was a very unique style of writing- I loved all the written imagery about nature, and I just loved the main character. She's has a heart of gold, yet she's intellgent and knows how to put people in their place while still showing compassion. Okay, I haven't quite finished yet, so hopefully she doesn't turn out to be evil in the end or anything and make me look stupid. Over all, I think it was an excellent recommendation. Who chooses what's next?
Rotating choosing sounds good...should we just say choose one that isn't so new/popular that it's impossible to get at the library?
And Mand, I enjoyed Precious Bane too. It WAS fun to read something different.
Ok, rotating sounds good, Heather, since you are done with Precious Bane, do you want to pick the next book? And then we can go Emilee, Mary, and see if the Catherine's still want to be part of the reading group (one is a new mommy and the other is in Russia)... Sound good? I just totally made that sequence up randomly.
Sounds good....any stipulations on choices, or can I choose whatever my heart desires?
Just use your best judgment...and hopefully something we can find in a library!
