SPEAK

I'm done. Liked it a lot, but it made me cranky. I don't like rape stuff. Not that it's not hard, or sad, or that people should know about it ... But sometimes I wonder if we should really write about subjects like these even if they are real. I can see, though, how a girl who was raped might read this and feel (maybe for the first time) that it wasn't her fault and she needn't be ashamed. But still, I'd never have a daughter of mine read it. There are other ways of teaching lessons and making points. There's just so much literature out there with terrible subject matter ...

I'm glad she finally found her tree, though.

I loved this book. I thought it was an incredible journey to watch, and I appreciated every step she took. Everything about it was REAL. (And though the the trauma she went through was terrible, it wasn't explicit.)
Some of the best literature ever written took on some dark topics. But it is about the triumph of the human spirit. It's about getting through, surviving and then thriving.
It may be my degree that made me this way, or it may be I chose my degree because I am this way, but I am big on introspection, on processing emotions and experiences, on having a clear self-concept. This book was a chance to witness these things. I thought it was a terrific book.

I ended up reading the book and watching the movie. The movie was very similar to the book. I did enjoy this book even if it was a little depressing at the beginning. However, we do have challenges that we go through in life. Melinda was able to get through the terrible thing that had happened to her. I'm so grateful there are people in our lives who help us through these hard times.

I also loved how she was able to write about some very difficult & dark topics without being explicit. I think that's true talent in writing. It was a very touching book.

I finally finished. I liked this book. It was well written. I liked how you felt like you were inside her head. It was a different point of view. It was a nice read. Made me think how lucky and blessed I am to not have experienced anything terrible in my life.

I'm so glad all of you enjoyed it, at least to some degree. It was a last minute decision, so I'm glad it was so well received. Everyone had great comments.

I haven't heard from Mandy yet, but I don't know, should we move on to the next book?
